Sekyiwa Shakur, Sister of legendary hip hop icon Tupac Shakur, celebrates her 46th birthday.

Sekyiwa, the President and CEO of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation, has led the foundation since her mother’s passing in 2016.

“Happy Birthday Set!! Thank you for all that you do for your community, friends and family. You are an inspiration to so many, so on this day….we celebrate YOU! With Gratitude The Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation ❤✊🏾🌻,” read the caption on the foundation’s official Instagram account.

The Tupac Shakur Foundation, originally the Shakur Family Foundation was founded by Afeni Shakur in 1997. Sekyiwa Shakur has always been a strong leader in the foundation since it’s birth, but now finds herself with a bigger responsibility.

“What I want to be the new message from us, is that we realize where we have been. From the Panthers. The civil rights movement. The human rights movement, rap, Thug Life. We’ve realize where we have been, and where we want to go. What’s been working and what hasn’t been working. Today we can honestly say what hasn’t been working. And I want to create and want to help anybody else who is working on the right choice, the right change. The right way to offer support,” Sekyiwa said speaking to with Sterling James of KBLX 102.9 back in 2019.

The foundation celebrated its one year presence in New Orleans on Saturday (October 2) with a community feeding event which took place at four different locations. The event fed about 300 people. Speaking with WDSU reporter Shay O’Connor, Sekyiwa said giving back is the only way she knows how to celebrate.

“I realize everyone in my community is struggling after the storm. Although my homes were not damaged, who am I to throw that in people’s faces, in form of a celebration? So I have decided to spend the day giving back to New Orleans, helping them the way they have helped me,” Shakur said.
