Gene Deal sits down with VLAD TV as recalls the night when Diddy ran from Tupac and Suge Knight at the Soul Train Music awards.
The 1996 (March 29) Soul Train Music awards was held at in Los Angeles at the Shrine Auditorium. Hosted by Anita Baker, Brandy and LL Cool J, Tupac would take home best Rap Album for his third studio album “Me Against The World.” The album was released when Tupac was locked up as it peaked at number one on the Billboard 200. With hits such as “Dear Mama”, the album beat out Method Man’s “Tical” and Coolio’s “Gangsta Paradise.”
Speaking about Tupac and Biggie running into each other that evening Gene said, “We heard it on the radio, so me and Puff is running trying to get there.” Continuing with his recollection Gene Deal said, “I see ‘Pac and Suge and the rest of them come right there and we at the end of the edge. If you take this left you have to jump down to where the television and the media was at. So Puff was right behind and they coming. They’re talking amongst each other, I see them. I looked at Puff and said, ‘Yo, Puff don’t worry about nothing. I got this. Just take care of my family’. When I looked the other way, next thing you know he jumped down and took off running.”

Although Gene Deal stated Diddy jumped down to the media area, other accounts of the what took place have things happening a bit different. Napoleon, former member of the Outlawz was not in attendance, but did recall hearing the story when Tupac got back to the hotel. According to Napoleon Diddy was coming up the stairs and when he saw Tupac and Suge Knight he jumped in a window of the tour bus. As told by Tupac, Lil Cease was the only one “mouthing off.”
