Ashanti appeared on Hot 97 as she spoke about Irv Gotti’s Drink Champs interview and why the former Murder Inc records CEO has continuously attacked her.
Irv Gotti’s Drink Champs interview back in August was a memorable one, but perhaps for all the wrong reasons. The hour plus interview appeared to be mainly focused on Ashanti, thanks to Irv Gotti himself.
Irv who said he was hurt the moment when Ashanti no longer wanted to throw the “M” representing Murder Inc. records, also touched on many layers of their history. From their alleged 20 plus years ago intimate relationship to now their fight over Ashanti’s masters for her debut album.
Ashanti, speaking with Ebro and Rosenberg, revealed why she did not want any part of a Murder Inc documentary. “Once someone goes after you and attacks you, intentionally continues to try to hurt you. At some point you have to protect yourself. I just felt I didn’t want to put myself in that space, in that energy,” explained Ashanti. “It was just really really negative.”
Although Ashanti does believe Gotti continuously mentioning her on Drink Champs was part of the promotion for the Murder Inc documentary, the R&B singer also believes Irv’s “vibe and how he has been feeling has been there for a long time.”
“I think it is a combination of being bitter because of the business stuff and how things happened in his mind,” added Ashanti. “I just feel like he’s not in or he wasn’t in a good space. In his own personal.”
Despite Irv Gotti’s comments about Ashanti, the singer is thankful for everyone that stood up with her after the infamous Drink Champs interview. One of those individuals was Ja Rule. (View: Ja Rule Releases Heartfelt Message Defending Ashanti)
Ja, who was put in a very tough spot given his friendship with both Irv Gotti and Ashanti, stood up for Ashanit during the Drink Champs interview and after. Self dubbed as “Switzerland” during the interview, Ja Rule corrected Gotti when referring to Ashanti as a b****.Two days after the interview, Ashanti and Ja Rule would perform on stage. Hours later, Rule would share a photo of him and Ashanti holding hands on stage with the following caption, “Brotherly love… The last few days have been very turbulent for me but it’s time to land the plane… I love my sis I love my bro but I DO NOT condone or agree with the behavior nor the way Gotti handled things on drink champs I hope y’all understand how uncomfortable this is for me being in the middle of something I wish to not be… going forward all I ask is to be left out of this please and thank you!!! Sincerely Switzerland Bennett… ✌🏾🙏🏾❤️🌊❤️ #ICONN#Vibes“
Later in the interview, Ashanti said she is a Libra who is all about calling a truce and being peaceful. One particular individual and relationship which she says “that ship has sailed,” is that of Irv Gotti. According to Ashanti, she had previously sent a white flag emoji to Irv calling for peace, but as seen by everyone, that apparently was not received well by Goitti. Going forward Ashanti will accept an apology, but is not looking to rebuild their friendship.
