20 Years Ago Pusha-T Rap’s McDonald’s “I’m Lovin’ It,” Now Joins Arby’s

After supporting McDonalds’s 20 years ago, hip hop artist Pusha-T slams the iconic food chain and sides with Arby’s in a new diss ad.

With age, Pusha-T continues to improve on the mic and it appears so has his taste for fish sandwiches. In the latest one minute plus ad, Pusha-T questions McDonald’s signature Fish Filet sandwich. “Filet-O-Fish is ****, and you should be disgusted, How dare you sell a square fish asking us to trust it?”

20 years ago, the Virginia native was singing a different tune. In fact, Pusha-T was “lovin” McDonald’s as he flipped the “I’m Lovin’ It” tune (Listen here). Confirming his involvement with McDonald’s longest running ad campaign in the company’s 82-year history, Pusha-T revealed to Rolling Stone how much he was paid. “I am solely responsible for the ’I’m Lovin‘ It’ swag and the jingle of that company,” Pusha explained. “It was like half a million or a million dollars for me and my brother — but that’s peanuts for as long as that’s been running.”

Pusha made the mistake of not earning royalties from the ad, but this time around, his business was right. “Doing those types of songs, I usually require a high percentage of ownership. I do that because that style of music is very conducive to commercials. And regardless of what part they take of the song – whether it’s my voice or not – I own what I own,” he said.
