Hip hop artist and producer, Will.i.am, reveals the reason why and what inspired him to pursue a rapping career.
Discussing his brand new SiriusXM show “will.i.am Presents the FYI Show,” will.i.am recently joined host Roxanne Shanté on the “Have a Nice Day” show airing on SiriusXM LL COOL J’s Rock the Bells Radio.
Kicking of the interview, will.i.am started off by describing his appearance on the “Have a Nice Day” show as “surreal.” This is when the multi-talented artist revealed that he wanted to rap because of Roxanne and that she was his inspiration while growing up in the projects.
“This is surreal for me,” he said. “You know, ’cause I wanted to rap because of you and Biz and you know, wow. Sitting here like I’m getting emotional. When I was in the projects like you kept me safe.”
Filled with emotions and extremely appreciative, host Roxanne Shanté said, “Oh, I appreciate that. Like, I appreciate that. I love being your big sister. I love keeping everyone safe. I love the fact that, again, you know, and I think we talked about it for a second, was the fact that when people see me and they see Cool V but you know, and they see Roxanne Shanté, I take ’em back to that point in their childhood where they’re able to say like, “I remember when it was like this, and I remember when you did it like this.” You know? But I can sit back today and say I am so thankful that y’all did it like that.”
Roxanne Shanté is indeed forever remembered for her contribution to hip hop. The Queens native started her legendary career back in 1984 and was part of the iconic group, Juice Crew.
“Have a Nice Day” airs weekdays at 4pm ET on SiriusXM LL COOL J’s Rock the Bells Radio, (ch. 43).
