Wendy Day Talks The Exact Moment Dr. Dre Signed A Homeless Eminem

Wendy Day recently spoke with Hip Hop XXIV and revealed the exact moment when Dr. Dre signed Eminem.

According to the founder of Rap Coalition, Wendy Day says Dr. Dre signed Eminem right after the 1997 Rap Olympics. This was the infamous night Eminem lost his battle against L.A. native Otherwize. A homeless Eminem had his sights on the winning prize of $500 and a Rolex, with hopes of selling the watch to find a place to live.

Fortunately for Eminem he would gain so much more after the lost. Eminem would become a part of Dr. Dre’s Aftermath record label. “Dr. Dre offered him a deal right there and then,” Wendy Day said on Hip Hop XXIV. “So, the deal was negotiated for the next several months.”

Eminem would go to become one of the greatest rappers of all time. Fast forward to 2022 and this years Super Bowl halftime show, Eminem joined Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and 50 Cent on stage. The epic performance did not go without controversy.

Right as Dr. Dre paid tribute to Tupac Shakur, Eminem took a knee as he closed out his ‘Loose Yourself’ performance. (Watch here) It appeared Eminem took a knee in solidarity for former NFL Colin Kaepernick who took a knee back in 2016 during the national anthem as an act of protest against police brutality and racism.

Wendy Day praised Eminem for taking a knee at the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show. “I thought it was amazing because he took a knee like Colin Kaepernick,” Wendy Day said during her interview with Hip Hop XXIV. “So it showed me he is still political and he still gives a sh*t. And, that’s a amazing because he is at a level in life where he could not doing any of that and be fine and be loved. The fact that he saw the need to do that, even though they was told not to do that, I think is amazing.”
