Watch Dear Mama: The Saga of Afeni And Tupac Shakur Official Trailer
One month before FX premieres the Allen Hughes directed 5-part series, Dear Mama, the official trailer has been released.
Never-before-seen footage of Tupac was promised and the official trailer has fans already excited. A powerful 2-minute official trailer was released Wednesday (March 22) for the upcoming docuseries which premieres on FX April 21st.
“It was my responsibility to teach Tupac how to survive his reality,” said Afeni in the official trailer. Told through the eyes of the people who knew them best, Dear Mama is an intimate wide-angle portrait of the most inspiring and dangerous mother-son duo in American history, whose unified message of freedom, equality, persecution and justice are more relevant today than ever.
“My mother taught me to analyze society and not be quite. If there’s something on my mind, speak it,” Tupac says on Dear Mama official trailer.
On its premiere, episodes 1 and 2 will air on FX at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Every week after on Friday a new episode will air as the series concludes on May 12th, two days before Mother’s Day.
The series will also feature Baby footage of Tupac. “Wherever possible, we tried to find archival footage that hadn’t been seen so there’s a lot that we have in the five parts,” said Hughes. “There’s also audio that’s never been heard. And not just some of his acapellas and vocals, there is a lot of stuff of Tupac from his baby years that had never been seen. For Tupac superfans, I believe that two of the most important things in the project is the never seen before. But most importantly, you get to understand why he made certain decisions.”
Along with the docuseries the first and only Estate-authorized biography of the legendary artist, Tupac Shakur, will also be released. The book written by author Staci Robinson, is set for a fall 2023 release, but fans have the opportunity to pre-order now on Amazon (Click Here).
