Karim Benzema, 32-year-old French soccer player, paid tribute to his favorite childhood music artist, Tupac Shakur.
It was always Karim Benzema’s childhood dream to be on top and win a Ballon d’Or award. Benzema’s performance at last year’s Champions League and La Liga winning seasons, sealed Karim’s first-ever Ballon d’Or award. “This is a childhood dream. My journey was not easy. It was difficult for me and my family. To be here today for the first time, I am happy with my work. I will keep going,” said Benzema in his acceptance speech Monday night (October 17) in Paris.
Apart from winning the award, Benzema also made headlines as he paid tribute to his favorite childhood music artist, Tupac Shakur. Five years ago, Benzema revealed he started listening to hip hop music at the age of seven years old with his favorite artist being Tupac Shakur. “I must have been 7 years old or 8 years old,” Benzema told Highsnobiety, naming Tupac as his only favorite rap artist growing up.
In the throwback interview, Benzema also stated he was inspired by the hip hop culture and its fashion. Clearly inspired by Tupac’s style, Benzema paid tribute by sporting a similar look worn by Tupac at the 1996 American Music Awards.
From the suit to the rounded framed glasses. Although missing a gold chain, Karim Benzema did the Tupac look justice. Let us know in the comments below what you think of Benzema paying tribute to Tupac and winning his first-ever Ballon d’Or award.
