Talib Kweli and Madlib joined SiriusXM’s Sway In The Morning with host Sway Calloway. During the conversation, they talked about ‘Liberation 2’ and revealed that Madlib is working on a new Mac Miller album with his estate.
“Right now I’m finishing up the Mac Miller album,” said Madlib around the 5:20 marked of the interview as he confirms it is the very same album that was mentioned back in 2019 and was never released. Although it appears we are getting closer to the tentatively titled Maclib project, but still no official date exist.
For those who wonder if the project finally being released could face any hurdles that could nix the album such as the Mac Miller Estate not supporting, Maclib put such myths to rest with a simple, “Yes, they’re down.”
The new album would mark Miller’s second posthumous release. Back in January of 2020 his estate released Circle. Months later Miller’s estate announced plans for another posthumous release which appears to be on the way in 2023.
“Mac Miller’s team is working on an untitled project to celebrate Malcolm and his music,” said the Estate back in 2020. “His art touched so many lives, in so many ways.”
Talib Kweli who also joined Madlib on Sway In The Morning spoke about featuring a posthumous Mac Miller verse on Liberation 2. “Me and Mac Miller both rhymed to the same Madlib beat at the same time in different places,” explained Kweli. “When we found that out, we were like, now it’s a song together.”
Sway Calloway hosts Sway in the Morning on SiriusXM’s Shade 45 weekdays at 8:00 am ET.
