Appearing on VLAD TV, DL Hughley explains the moment when he said enough was enough when it comes to Kanye West.
Kanye West aka Ye, has generated headlines for years now. Although West claims there is a method to his madness, others tend to be out off by Ye. While some have given West multiple chances, DL Hughley on the other hand knew when it was time to close that chapter.
“When Kanye West said slavery was a choice, I was done,” said Hughley. “And everything he has done since then has reedified my position that I was right.”
Hughley is referring to Kanye’s comments about slavery on TMZ back in 2018. During his appearance on TMZ, West was asked about his MAGA hat which he wore in support of Donald Trump. As he explained his backing of Trump, Kanye West shifted gears to Slavery.
“When you hear about slavery for 400 years … For 400 years? That sounds like a choice,” said West. “You were there for 400 years and it’s all of y’all. It’s like we’re mentally imprisoned.” The video went viral with headlines reading: Kanye Says Slavery Was A Choice.
West did go on to apologize and explained himself on radio and through various Tweets. But for Hughley, nothing has changed his mind when it comes to Kanye West.
“I’m not shocked at what he is doing. I’m not stir about what he is doing. Kanye West is everything I thought he was from the minute I heard him say that and he has done nothing to dissuade me from that notion,” said the comedian on VLAD TV.
One of West’s actions Hughley is referring to is one of which West made antisemitic comments when appearing on the now-deleted podcast interview with Drink Champs. “It’s the way he separates himself from people. Like when he said, ‘Oh I can say all the antisemitic s*** that I want and Adidas won’t do anything.’ Nobody is above the game.”
Hughley also noted Kanye’s comments about the Holocaust and George Floyd is not to be confused with free thinking. “He’s saying horrible things and they are things that you would know weren’t true if you read. But you don’t read, you just spout this s*** off,” said Hughley.
