John Cena Credits His Brother And Tony Yayo For “U Can’t See Me” Taunt

John Cena appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon where he gave credit to his brother and Tony Yayo for his iconic “U Can’t See Me” taunt.

For years, John Cena has used his trademark “U Can’t See Me” catch phrase in the WWE. Cena has become one of the greatest WWE Superstars of all time. Along with the infamous catch phrase, Cena would wave his hand in front of his face, letting rival superstars know they were not on the same level. Now years later, Cena has fully explained where it all originated.

During his interview on the late night show, Cena was asked about his “U Can’t See Me” trademark. According to the 16 time WWE Champion, it was his brother who inspired the hand gesture. “I developed a special maneuver in the WWE called the ‘You Can’t See Me,’ in which I put my hand in front of my face and say, ‘You can’t see me. And the reason I did this is ’cause while we were making the album to which my theme music is on, my younger brother Sean was always our litmus test,” Cena explained. “He kind of like the same music and he would never go to the studio with us. So, we would come home and play a track for him and he was ruthless man. He would never be satisfied with any song.

Well, that was until Cena’s brother heard “My Time Is Now.” While listening to the song, Cena’s brother would mimic Tony Yayo’s hand over the face as the G-Unit member did on his “So Seductive” music video. “He just did this dance that Tony Yayo did in one of the G-Unit videos — he put his hand over his head and bobbed his head,” Cena continued. “And I was like, ‘Man, what are you doing? That looked ridiculous.’”

Moments later, Cena said he would go ahead and try it on WWE television. Cena’s brother dared him, to which Cena accepted and the rest is history. Tony Yayo became aware Cena’s explanation and shared the video on his Twitter with the following, “Shout out to John Cena 💪🏿💪🏿.”
