Instagram: The Spirit Of Tupac Slapped Chris Rock At The Oscars
Yes, it was the slap heard around the world. Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, but many people it was the spirit of Tupac who led the way.
Sunday’s (March 27) 94th Academy Awards was more than just a night of acknowledging and rewarding those for their hard work. It will also be the night remembered for Will Smith “slapping the sh-t” out of host Chris Rock.
As the 57-year-old comedian took the stage to present the award for Best Documentary Feature, Rock did his usual comedy shtick. Except, perhaps this time he took things too far, well as least for Jada and Will. This is when Chris Rock turned his attention to Jada Pinkett Smith, who was rocking a shaved head to the Oscars. “Jada, I love ya,” Rock said live on stage. “GI Joe 2, can’t wait to see it.”
Clearly as seen on live television, Jada was not amused. Will Smith on the other hand was chuckling away, but seconds later things went left. Will Smith proceeded to walk up the stage and slap Chris Rock across the face. As Chris Rock stood on stage in shock, Will Smith walked back to his seat. Initially those in attendance appeared to think it was part of the act. That was until Will Smith shouted from his seat, “Keep my wife’s name out your f–king mouth!”
Social media quickly react with various memes. One of which included the late Tupac Shakur. Highlighting Will Smith slapping Chris Rock, the title read: And then the spirit of Tupac Shakur showed up at the Oscars.
Tupac’s insertion into the mix, stems from his well documented friendship with Jada Pinkett Smith. The two met at the Baltimore School of Performing Arts. Back in 2020, Will Smith admitted his jealously towards Tupac when he appeared on The Breakfast Club.
When asked by co-host Charlemagne Tha God if Will was ever jealous of Tupac Shakur, Will answered with a “F— yeah”. “Oh my god, dude. And, that was in the early days. That was a big regret for me too, cause I could never open up to interact with ‘Pac. Cause we had a little bit of a thing, because you know they grew up together and they loved each other, but they never had a sexual relationship,” Will Smith said.

In positive news for Will, he took home an Oscar for Best Actor for his role as Richard Williams—father of Venus and Serena Williams—in King Richard. Hitting the stage to accept his very first Oscar award, Will Smith apologized. “I want to apologize to the Academy,” Smith said. “I want to apologize to all of my fellow nominees.”
